The Garden Club of Honolulu Presented Na Pua Ali‘i –
Reflections on Hawai‘i's Royal Legacy - April 17, 18 and 19, 2009, at the Honolulu
Academy of Arts.
A Major Flower & Horticulture Show -
Specially sanctioned by the Garden Club of America, this competitive event included flower
arranging, horticulture, photography, and botanical jewelry entries, as well as two
educational exhibits -- all judged by 65 Garden Club of America-approved judges.
The theme Na Pua Ali‘i – Reflections on Hawai‘i’s Royal Legacy took us back to
the height of Victorian splendor, the coronation of King David Kalakaua and his
Queen Kapi‘olani in 1883 and a 90-year period that transforms the Hawaiian Islands
from traditional Polynesian chiefdom to contemporary European kingdom.
WCCC Exhibit
"Your wonderful work with the program at the WCCC showed
remarkable sensitivity and pride …The entire exhibit was
outstanding, imaginative and carried out the theme of the show
in an interesting and educational way. I think it is time to
think of a GCA Award for your club honoring your long time
commitment and creativity to the WCCC Program."
